Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.<br \/>\n90 &#8211; 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.<br \/>\n80 &#8211; 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.<br \/>\n70 &#8211; 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.<br \/>\n60 &#8211; 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and\/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.<br \/>\n50 &#8211; 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.<\/p>\n<p>One region produces amazing-quality wine with character at looooow prices.<br \/>\nIt is a region that has been around for a long time, and while everyone knows it\u2014and famous producers make wine here\u2014it continues to trade at, sometimes, ridiculously low prices.<br \/>\nI have a whole lineup of wines to taste from this region. All of the wines have scored 90 points or higher with leading critics, and most of them sell for under \u20ac20 \/ $20.<br \/>\nWhich region am I talking about?<\/p>\n<p>C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4ne stretches 180 km \/ 112 miles from Vienne in the north to Avignon in the south, but most is produced south of Mont\u00e9limar, with close to 27,000 hectares under vine. So it covers a lot of ground.<\/p>\n<p>While C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4ne AOC can be made in both the Northern and Southern Rh\u00f4ne, the vast majority of the wines come from the south, where C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4ne vineyards can border famous AOCs like Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas.<\/p>\n<p>Production is 83% red, 9% ros\u00e9, and 8% white, with a lineup of 23 permitted grape varieties.<br \/>\nMost red wines are based on Grenache, Syrah, and\/or Mourv\u00e8dre.<\/p>\n<p>These wines tend to be concentrated and full-bodied, and in many cases, the wines are solid but unremarkable.<\/p>\n<p>What is exciting, though, is that there are outstanding C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4nes that retail for similar prices but offer very high quality.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Check out Cellar Class to take your wine knowledge to the next level: https:\/\/www.cellarclass.com\/ Learn from a Master of Wine [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":3195,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3194","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v17.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/cooking.catherineliew.com\/?p=3194\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Is this the BEST VALUE RED WINE in the World?
